What to expect on your first call

Your free 30-minute consultation is a confidential conversation with a Stokes Law lawyer. We listen to the situation in your own words, identify the legal issues at play — parenting, child or spousal support, property division, a contested estate, a commercial dispute — and explain the realistic options in plain English. You'll leave the call understanding the likely next steps, the approximate cost, and the timeline so you can decide whether to retain us with full information in hand.

If your matter is urgent — an emergency parenting application, a without-notice protection order, or a looming court deadline — tell us when you book and we will route the call to the lawyer best placed to respond quickly.

How to prepare

  • • A short written summary of the dispute or the outcome you're seeking.
  • • Key dates: separation, marriage, cohabitation, incident, service of documents.
  • • Names of the other parties, lawyers (if any), and the court file number.
  • • Any orders, agreements, or correspondence already in place.
  • • Recent income information (T1, pay stubs, NOA) for support matters.
  • • A list of the questions most important to you.

Don't worry if you don't have everything — we'd rather hear from you sooner than wait for a perfect file.

Where we practice

Our office is at #201, 724 11 Ave SW in Calgary's Beltline. We appear regularly before the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King's Bench in Calgary and across the province, and we serve clients in Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere, Red Deer, Edmonton, and surrounding communities. Most matters can be handled by video call, phone, and secure document exchange — you do not need to live in Calgary to retain us.
